Football & Soccer

We are going over football and soccer rules & gameplay.  You will be responsible for the information on the handouts as well as picking up on vocab words/terminology used in gameplay.  Check back periodically as I will be posting hints as to what to study for for your football and soccer tests coming up the week of December 7-11.

Popcorn Fundraiser Festivities

We had a Popcorn Fundraiser a few weeks back and we raised $$$.  Top sellers were rewarded with silly stringing our principal, duct taping me, sliming a few other staff members and video truck.

Today the students got to silly string the principal and duct tape me.  Mind you for the past month or so all I've been hearing is "tape" lol.  The looks on the students faces is pretty much why I do what I do.  And I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Started the festivities a little after lunch.  We put a tarp down in my room for the silly string event and outside we used the pole for the playground to duct tape me.  So they silly stringed our principal first and moved on to duct taping me outside.  It looked like a spring carnival but with just 2 events.

We started with Kinder, and they were just the cutest.  They wanted to duct tape me, but they put it on me so gently.  So precious.  Every time the grade level went up, the students duct taping me multiplied.  The size of the tape also grew larger ..."hey, who's in charge of distributing the tape?!" Lol. The students had a blast, the classes that came out to see the event were enjoying themselves as if they were also duct taping me.  I had some teachers whisper in my ear, "you're a good sport, bless your heart" and others who wanted in on the action and wanted to duct tape my mouth.

As 5th grade came around to finish the job, the time finally came to see if they successfully duct taped me to the pole.  Our principal took the stool that I was standing on for nearly 2 hours and slid it away from feet ... moment of truth ... I was duct taped!

1st blog

Welcome to my class.  Since this is a new thing that, we will start off by making these blogs about what my classes are doing in the P.E.  You can check up on your child[ren] and see what skills they are performing/acquiring, their social interaction, and of course how much fun they are having.

My intermediate (3rd-5th) classes are in their soccer and football unit and my primary classes are involved in a muscular strength and endurance unit.  Yes you saw that right, my intermediate classes are doing both soccer and football unit at the same time.  Call me crazy, but with 36 students in each of my 5th grade classes, it just sounded manageable to me (and with equipment - I don't have the money to continue to buy ... I have to use the money wisely and purchase things that I need and buying more flags as oppose to playground balls ... yeah playground balls won out).  So one class is doing football while the other is doing soccer and the next time they come, they switch units.  It's actually working out pretty well and with the assistant that I have, it is running smoothly.  The classes get more of out; they get to practice more on the skill at hand as oppose to having all 72 students practicing - that's a lot more students plus less equipment equals a lot of wait time.

My primary (K-2nd) classes just finished their leg portion (Crab Soccer) of muscular strength and endurance and now we are working on arm strength and endurance with Parachute Games.  Sharks and Lifeguards and Cat and Mouse are the 2 games we are focusing on this week.  Below is Sharks and Lifeguards in which some students were chosen to be sharks and they are underneath the parachute.  They are suppose to crawl underneath the chute and grab students legs and pull them under.  The swimmers (students being pulled under) are suppose to yell "lifeguard" and the lifeguards are suppose to run to their rescue and pull them out.  The students are loving, especially if it's their first time playing the game.
